Future Plans
Goals (2021-2024) include:
-
Increasing the number of Correction Officer and Deputy Sheriff positions within the office:
-
The additional Deputy Sheriff staffing will provide services that benefit the community through criminal patrol and traffic safety enforcement efforts, civic engagement, community involvement, and community educational sessions.
-
The additional Correctional staffing provides a high level of safety & security within the jail environment for all incarcerated persons & staff. It also provides the opportunity to deliver programming to reduce recidivism, educate persons with addictive needs that other healthy alternatives exist, and deliver trauma-informed care.
-
-
Community policing efforts will remain a high priority:
-
Increase our Neighborhood Watch programs; continuing the collaboration between the agency & community. Partnerships with community organizations and assist in the delivery of services to those in need.
-
Increase our participation in athletic-sponsored events to engage with our youth in our community to address violent crime and status-driven criminal behavior.
-
Self-esteem-building programs and anti-bullying programming will be increased and delivered to the community.
-
Offer safety classes for women and the elderly to equip them with the mindset and some techniques for victim avoidance.
-
Firearm safety courses would also yield positive results for the population of gun owners and hunters who routinely have contact with a firearm.
-
Gunlock safety equipment and education would be offered when resources exist.
-
Deliver online safety courses that could prevent many older persons from becoming a victim of identity theft or scams.
-
-
Continuance of certifications and accreditation processes for the Sheriff’s Office while striving to be the best of the best in the law enforcement world:
-
Furthering a partnership with Clark State Community College to provide up-to-date training environments along with high-level instructors. The local partnerships we have with Clark State, OPOTA, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Bureau of Justice, Clark County Department of Job & Family Services, CORSA, and multi-jurisdictional agencies provide a platform for intense, real-life, advanced training opportunities for our officers. The quality of instruction serves to be a vital component in training them to be elite, highly trained officers which in turn delivers the level of professionalism expected within our community.
-
-
Combat violent crime, drug interdiction, or high-level consumer crime with the appropriate resources:
-
The times of elevated criminal behavior within our community will be met with the formulation of task force intervention to combat the elevated criminal activity before our community is adversely affected. The efforts will be presented with the collaboration of local agencies to provide a swift response to this problem and make all necessary arrests to positively return our community to a place of peace.
-
-
Continue to deliver professional law enforcement services to the public and maintain transparency from this office in the deliverables we have identified.
-
Continue strong partnerships within the Clark County justice system to identify challenges that create delays in the court system or to adequately manage an increasingly unhealthy (physically, mentally, etc.) incarcerated population:
-
Seeking federal funds to offset medications, medical services, or programming needs of the jail population will continue to be a responsible form of financial oversight for county dollars.
